it's not all darkness

am reading king lear again. favorite line so far: "An admirable evasion of whoremaster man, to lay his goatish disposition to the charge of a star."

dvds i have seen.

mean girls: it's like heathers for disney. some good lines ("she's like, an axe wound" "you smell like a baby prostitute") and people being hit by buses. best thing about it was kevin g.
dodgeball: men being hit by things. it's just funny. even the same dodgeball in the nuts joke, repeated several times, is funny. vince vaughn could be the new bill murry if he was uglier.
live forever: britpop. yes it was important. it needs better representation than this. the guys from wonderwall should write a sitcom.
far from heaven: very visual: the colours burst like pale paint over the trees and building. the actors look like statues that are unable to move too quickly. it has one of the best director commentaries i have ever seen. todd hayes is a passionate clever guy. he's prepared quotes from douglas sirk and overloads the commentary with them.

books i have read.

past mortem - ben elton: problem is: it's too predictable and all the characters sound the same. they all sound like ben elton. can't he just give all the jokes to one character, who would obviously be the ben elton character? and despite myself, i still find him funny. and despite his heavy clefts at critique, he has a point. and it's too graphic. but i couldn't stop reading. maybe it was because it was set in london.
