video games
was going to write a post about a video game review i read the other day. i sort of lost interest half writing the post. then i deleted half of it. then decided to post the other half. here you are. it's work in progress. forever.

read a review for a new video game the other day. it's called scarface, or something like that and is based (inspired?) by the film.
in the game, tony has somehow survived the end of the film (you remember, when he was shot 50 times and fell into a fountain) . now you control tony and you have to do drug deals, shoot people and even set up legitimate businesses as a front for all your drug money. also you can taunt people and build up your rage to beserker mode making you a even more effective killing machine. nice.
apart from the obvious questionable amorality of the game, what annoys me more is how they've bludgeoned the film of all it's original thought. did de palma, stone or even pacino have anything to say about this game? i guess not. wasn't the original film about the american dream gone wrong? isn't it about power? isn't it about corruption? doesn't it want to say that all of the above makes you into a paranoid cream faced loon?
from the review, it sounds like they've reduced the game to loud hawaiian shirts, big guns and foul language. where blood is just decoration and guns are easily shot and people easily killed. maybe the prize at the end of a game is tony gets a quick shag with his sister.

told you.
