eating food #2 - tea
better writers than me have given instructions on how to make a good cup of tea, but here is my method. it's very easy and never has to be changed. in this modern world, i rarely have a chance to use a teapot, so most of the time i only make single cups. this is why the crucial steps to making a pot and a cup of tea differ.
first use 95 degree to boiling water. this maxim is so obvious that to not know it makes me want to headbutt you in the eyeballs.
use one bag per cup. i read somewhere that some people use 2. what a waste!
the next part is very very important. pour the water directly on the teabag. that's "directly" on the teabag. this inflates the teabag with air. the teabag should float.
now you can use your fingers to hold the teabag. bob the teabag up and down until the tea becomes very dark brown or black. 3-5 bobs are usually enough.
next is the milk. pour in the required amount. i use approx 12 parts tea 1 part milk.
after pouring in the milk immediately use your fingers again and bob the teabag. if everything is according to plan, then the teabag should leak out a dark brown liquid. bob it a few times to mix the tea with the milk.
finally leave the teabag in the cup. leave it in for flavour. leave it in for taste. leave it in so your tea doesn't taste like water, milk and mud.
and then give it to me and i will drink it until the cup is empty. now try it for yourself and tell me it isn't the best cup of tea you've ever had.

At the risk of sounding like a tasteless philistine: I don't like tea. I never have.
I find it entirely unappealing; less pleasant, in fact, than just drinking hot water. I've never understood its popularity. The same goes for coffee.
There, I've said it. I'm sure your technique is fine, though.
If you like tea.
I'll remember your egg custard tart advice the next time I'm in a position to buy one, which can't happen soon enough, frankly.
Hope you're well...
Joe.
hey joe,
yes you are a tasteless philistine but you're the type of guy who doesn't give a shit. rock n fricking roll!
i actually like drinking hot water too. i don't know why. the limescale from the kettle i guess.
i am very well and i hope you are too. where might one find you nowadays?
One might find me working in the same place I've been for the last four years, much to my own surprise.
Things are OK, and have become interesting enough for me to hate it rather less than I did in the early days. Still finding the whole IT profession thing disappointingly dull, though.
What are you up to these days? Making use of your literary leanings?
i'm thinking of trading my literary leanings for some used pinball machine parts and roundish ball of edam.
after working for some different companies, i come to discover that company that we both worked for isn't really that bad at all. if i had a chance, would jump to work back there.
if you are in the same place, i may be there soon also, so... you know... why not eh?
sorry, that last sentence doesn't make any sense. please ignore it.
thanks.
