eating food #4 - golden delicious
apples have been friendly and indifferent during my life. some early memories of apples include a really shiny red apple when i was about 6 years old. i remember the glowing red and the spotless skin. i remember biting into it and really hurting my teeth. that put me off apples for a long time.
i got back into apples again when i was at university. that doesn't mean to say i never ate apples between these two times, but to say i have no particular memory of them. what attracted me to apples then was a quote about regular bowel movements. someone said to me "eating a bag of apples a day really sorts you out". let me make clear now that I didn't need any help with bowel movements, nor did i start eating a bag of apples a day, but for some unknown reason these words stuck and i started to eat apples again.
i like golden delicious apples because of their mediocrity. it has a nice if not blinding colour. the green is usually uniform. it is not too sandy and not too hard. it his not too soft. it is sweet and sometimes a little tangy. they are a good size. they last a reasonable amount of time and don't bruise too easily. even when they become yellow and quite ripe, they are still edible. damage and blemishes can be spotted easily. they are always readily available.
a quality basic. golden delicious are the ikea of apples.

With you on the Golden Delicious - an apple you can depend upon (tm).
I've recently been getting into Pink Lady apples. They are 'well nice'. (Though I can imagine overdoing them and having to fall back on Golden Delicious.)
Apples.
i've never tried pink lady apples. they sound abit like apples you might have after a few too many coxes and you need a rest bite. i'll give them a go though.
just thought of a joke:
Q: what do you call a granny smith that sings with no music?
A: an app(le)acella
apples indeed.
