Press Gets Good Press
So Prince Harry has been to war and not told anyone. Well, that's not true. People were told and upon their honour they swore to secrecy. Upon their honour and a promise of all the footage you can print/broadcast after his tour is over that is.
Since becoming a journalist, only have I noticed how the world hates journalists. Not only oppressive regimes like China and Burma, but even the common person. They think we just lie and make up the stories (!?). And no-one likes talking to journalist. Think we purposely twist words to suit our ends (!?). And of course some do, but most I know bust a gut to make sure they get the facts straight. People say we lie, then buy the Sun (!?). It's like saying British food is shit then continuously going back to the Angus Steakhouse. You can't generalise from a single case.
Thus, promises were made with editors of every major British news agency and they all kept to the deal. Every single one. They didn't try and sell their pictures to make fast buck, they didn't go paparazzi style and photo the hell out of Harry. He was left pretty much alone to do the thing that he wanted to do. Be a solider in the most normal way you can.
And what allowed him to do it was the promise made by British journalists. It's been a good press day.
