rent

saw rent the other day. the first half is better than the second. it's like if hubert selby jr took too many prozac and pretended to be andrew lloyd webber and then tacked on a shitty ending. and it's dated pretty badly too. what happened to all the homeless people?

chicago

also saw chicago on stage. not like the film is it? musicals on stage have far less talking. saw a black guy dancer and swore he's a superhero. had shiny pecs that were defined even to us at the nosebleed seats. and everyone wears underwear for the whole show eh? saucy.

layer cake

saw this for the first time yesterday. made me think about london in films. i liked the locations in this. very flashy. someone the other day said that the lifecycle of art goes from stylized to realism. isn't the early work always the best example of the art form? when it first rushes you and knocks the wind from your heaving chest? also didn't like the ending of this. reminded me of carlito's way, but not as well done. give me a cuban gangster anytime. (ha ha, i meant puerto rican, haha.)
