Example to the World?
Turkey's Islamist AK Party win the General Election on Sunday, even though critics say they could threaten the country's secular constitution. PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he would continue reforms and push to join the European Union.
People often highlight the fact that Turkey is the crossroads between Europe and Asia. I'm happy that the AKP have won and now get a chance to show the whole world how a Muslim society can be modern and progressive. Power may be swinging to the more religious minded, but now they can show how responsible they can be. I naively believe that they won't abuse the powers given to them by the people and also naively believe the Turkish army, defenders of secularism, will do the right thing if they do.
